And just like that… Halloween is over. Grumpy kids (or at least preschoolers) today??? If not you either a) don’t celebrate Halloween, b) celebrated Halloween last weekend, c) are a super-human parent or d) are lying! My house was CRAZY today. During nap (what little there was) I felt like eating a candy bar (0r 4 – they’re mini, right?) BUT decided to be more productive and focus on the (many, many) GOOD THINGS IN MY LIFE.
COUNTDOWN TO THANKSGIVING – 21 DAYS OF THANKS
Here’s to starting a new family tradition! Miss Silly is now 5 so I think she can understand fully the idea. I’ll make one for Loodle (3) too – I’m sure her thanks will be sweet (and completely redundant).
How does it work? Pretty straightfoward. Ask your children (yourself, your spouse) one thing they are thankful for each day until Thanksgiving. Record that item (on one of the printables below if you like:) and display throughout the holidays. I will display ours throughout the month and then keep a copy of each child’s and my own for the future. I’m excited to look back at how their perceptions of theworld (and sense of gratitude) change.
I made up a couple of options – feel free to click on any of them to save and print:)
My version above?? A shotgun approach to gratitude that definitely cured my post-Halloween, mid-(day-to-be-forgotten) slump. It’s so easy to forget all things that we HAVE and get wrapped up in what we DON’T.
We started this evening – here are the girls’ Day 1 THANKS:
Miss Silly (5)
“All the FOOD we have, because some kids don’t have any food.”
(A finicky eater, she hears this often:)
Loodle (3)
“All the PRESENTS that Santa brings us.” (Again with her holiday confusion:))
Don’t like my versions? No worries – make your own!! The point – let’s make November a month of gratitude because most of us have something (if not an over abundance of things) to be thankful for. If you want tips on how to digitally add your thanks to the printables either leave a comment or e-mail me at ifihadamillionhours@gmail.com.
Thanks for taking a look!
Blue Skies, Pumpkin Pies, and Blessings,
Lindsey
