My PERSONAL CHALLENGE for 2013?? Fighting Frump – on a limited budget, of course! You can read more about why HERE.
February – Skin Care
(or “I am SO NOT in my 20’s any more…”)
First, a lesson learned…don’t promise in a blog post to be back “NEXT WEEK”. It makes you feel like crap when three weeks of life happen and you’ve been MIA. For the record, nothing traumatic happened just lots of family/daycare stuff going on. This includes 2 daycare babies that aren’t cooperating with nap-time blogging AND Little Man who has extended his pre-bed Mommy snuggling ritual to a whopping 40 minutes. While it gets drawn out (aka – occasionally tedious), I’ll take those snuggles and skip blogging any day (and indeed I have, huh??)
A quick update on January’s Diet & Nutrition Goals – for the most part I’m doing well! Drinking more water, less pop. Watching portion sizes. Valentine’s Day – and the associated candies – have not been kind to me. Or, more accurately, I’VE not been kind to me by way of Valentines Candy:) But, its all about moving forward right?
On to the fun stuff…
I’ve NEVER been good about skin care. In fact, before February I (shamefully) admit that most nights I slept in my make-up. SUCH a bad habit.
So, I decided to jump start a new take/outlook on skin care. In a complete 180 degree shift from my normal frugal/cheap self I INVESTED IN HIGH END PRODUCTS.
Here’s my thought process:
- My skin is the ONE thing that I can’t get a “re-do” with when it comes to Fighting Frump. Well, that and my teeth:) Hair I can grow out/dye, wardrobes can be rebuilt BUT your skin is kind-of a one-shot thing. Granted you can improve your skin but if it is severely damaged/not taken care of that’s hard to fix.
- By buying expensive products I ensure that my cheap self will use them! Otherwise I’d feel horribly guilty – not so fun.
- I didn’t really know what I needed, should be doing, etc. My internet searches weren’t all that helpful – although they were admittedly short – so asking for advice really helped.
I ended up getting Clinique’s 3-step cleansing process (products?) along with some samples of other stuff. AND I’VE FALLEN IN LOVE!! My skin, after only 3 1/2 weeks, looks so much better. Smoother, more supple, decreased pore size…its just great. I’ve fortunately never had bad skin but now I’d say its looking great.
Could I have gotten away with cheaper stuff? Of course, but knowing me I would have spent 45 minutes in the big box aisles pondering my decisions, bought something because it was cheap, not liked it, and had it sit in my cupboard NOT being used.
This is just one of those instances where spending a bit a decent chunk more upfront, in my opinion, will mean spending less in the end (or at least having great looking skin!)
I’m still working on body skin care…I just haven’t figured out my routine. One HUGE problem area for me is my disgusting, cracked hard-working hands. I have to wash my hands SO MUCH each day that they are always chapped.
So, to any readers willing to throw out suggestions…any body care products you’d recommend? How about tricks/methods for keeping your hands from cracking/drying out? ANY feedback would be appreciated!
Thanks for taking a look!
Blue Skies & Blessings,
Lindsey
