Rainbow Cocktails – for the kids:)

Miss Silly’s 5th birthday theme (for her first “friends” party)?  RAINBOWS!!

Why not serve up some super tasty, crazy fun drinks?  I had originally planned on making colored ice cubes with food coloring (via an idea I’d seen in a Rachel Ray magazine insert) but they turned out pretty gross – didn’t freeze great, made my fingers too colorful, and didn’t add anything flavor-wise to what they were put in.  In swooped my husband with the simple comment – “Why not make them out of Kool-Aid?”  Of course!  Why hadn’t I thought of that?

They were really simple to make:

This worked GREAT and were the hit of the party (except for the ridiculously cute take-home gifts – you’ll see them soon:).

A few tips:

  • Make sure to start these early – I cut it close with the purple (grape) cubes being just barely frozen at party start time.
  • The cubes store well in the freezer.  In fact, we have a ton leftover and they can be used for future Rainbow Cocktails OR for glasses of Kool-Aid.
  • I tried eliminating all of the sugar from the cubes since there is sugar in the pop – didn’t taste very good.  Half the sugar seemed like the right amount.

For the party the various flavors were offered like this:

Small mason jars + Dollar Store plastic tub + simple homemade labels = SUCCESSFUL rainbow-themed kids drink!  I had tongs available for people to grab the cubes and a simple sign that explained the process:

My favorite combination – red and yellow (i.e. Cherry Lemonade!)

Thanks for stopping by!!

Blue Skies & Blessings,

Lindsey

I thought of that – maybe a bunch of fruit juices?? – but couldn’t afford so many juices on our pretty limited budget:( We are a
“everything in moderation” family. Our kiddos MAYBE drink Kool-Aid, pop, etc. once a month. Nice thing about the cubes is that they can be frozen for quite a while so I can stretch a thing of Kool-Aid over a long time without dumping it (or giving the kiddos WAY to much). Thanks for taking a look. I’ve posted a couple of projects at your party:)

What a GREAT idea! Thanks so much for linking this to Mom’s Library Link-Up. I am going to try this for our next birthday party. Except I may have to “boy” it up somehow! LOL
    Be blessed,
